Developing Your Narrative - Synopsis and Treatment

I believe that these terms are for films specifically, maybe not, but I will use them in terms of story writing.

Basically, a synopsis is an extremely abbridged version of an entire tv series/book. so if you are writing a short story with a maximum of 2 pages, it isn't really nesecary.

Treatment:

A treatment is similar to a synopsis, but it is for each individual chapter. In the case of a 2 page short story, it can be the entire story.

Here is an example based on bob the builder.

Bob starts out getting a phone call, it says that he is being arrested for copyright infringement. He then goes outside and talks to his giants evil machines. Then he goes on a rampage around the city all the way to the copyright office and destroys it.

simple, but without it, when you actually write your story, you can fill it with repetitive things and continuity errors.

  1. Bob's machines are not evil. Wendy on the other hand... I don't know if any of you own the original 'Bob the Builder' soundtrack but Wendy tries to defend herself singing these lyrics- "I'm a blonde haired girl in a hard hat. Don't try to make a monkey out of me". No Wendy. Just No. And please. Hurry up and get with Bob. The chemistry you guys have is just incredible.
