It has been too long! It has been too damn long! We’ve had to obey and submit to authority at school. Not right and just authority like the police, but overpaid, lazy half-hearted fools. They try to control us like a puppet. And not just one puppet – school has turned into a whole damn puppet show, with so many people wrestling for the strings.
Homework is a teacher’s ace-in-the-hole – forget a proper lesson, just beat a child down with a folder. Homework is just a damned tool! Homework depresses children so much they paper-cut themselves until they bleed with every sheet.
And do the teachers care about their students’ happiness? No! They tell you they don’t want to load you down, laughing their way to the bank. The cheque in your teacher’s pocket is more valuable than any paper you give to them.
Let us not cower in the corner, bowing to the teacher’s every will. We will not kiss the feet of the heartless tyrants that shackle us with homework every single day!
Rise up! Let our books burn in flames! Rise up! We are this nation’s future! Will we be brainwashed to commit the same mistakes that our parents?
Fellow students, let us rise up! Rip those uniforms, let your hate burst at every seam!
Do not let them tell you how to look, how to act. Do not let them tell you who you are. You know who are, so do not listen to any self-serving half-wit who tells you otherwise.
The teachers will try to restrain you. They want to control you. That is their power.
But we will cut every string; every single chain that these teachers have tied to our wrists. We will break free!
For every slip of paper given out to bring us shame, we will break free!
For every time we are punished because we refuse to conform, we will break free!
For every minute spent wasted, for every dollar spent to be educated by those gluttonous fools, we will break free!
And finally, standing on the shore of freedom, glancing out towards the horizon of hope, we will cry out victoriously as one.
And we shall be free.

Matt,
ReplyDeletethis speech is so good!!
The emotive language that you use in just about every sentence is moving.
The language techniques like the simile you used about her heart breaking the seems was great.
your speech was so persuasive.
Well Done!!!
This was a very persuasive speech. So persuasive in fact that I have no issue whatsoever in ripping off my school uniform. The Japanese culture says nudity is a form of purity, so I see no issue in it!
ReplyDeleteFuthermore, the amount of description put into this was very moving. You used repetition very effectivly, in a very K-Rudd style. Well done!
It is clear from this that you are a very clever story writer; the amount of descripive language in this is exceptional, and I am envious of your English capabilities.
Yet again, well done. I look forward to reading more of your work.
Perhaps you will be our next Martin Luther King speech writer? If this is the case, I beg of you, please, please don't get shot.
I am very impressed, a little jealous but mostly, I am persuaded. You have pretty much utilized every persuasive technique I know:
ReplyDeleteRhetorical question e.g. Will we be brainwashed to commit the same mistakes that our parents?
Simile e.g. They try to control us like a puppet.
Repetition e.g. we will break free!
There were also countless metaphors but I am terrible at identifying them so I left them out.
Some fairly awesome work here, my favourite is "just beat a child down with a folder."
I think you might just be the revolutionist Greavesy has nightmares about.
You've jam-packed this with some very powerful metaphors and even a similie (puppet show) which was so moving that, at first, I mistook it for a metaphor.
ReplyDeleteAs always your writing is memorable because of:
a)writing style (your a natural);
b)emotion;and
c)descriptive satire
Keep it up!
I like that the puppets are wrestling for the strings. Im going to call this imagery, and the image is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteOoh, letting hate burst at every seam? I love it.
Standing on the shore of freedom etc.. Powerful man, I actually want to paper-cut them!
